“Greetings from Chapter 64”-
The December minutes are as follows:
December 5, Hangar One
Meeting called to order at 7:04PM.
Secretary’s Report: A motion was made to forego secretary’s report due to mailing of newsletter – motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: We had an expense of $22 for airport rent,
income of $31 from 50/50 and dues - Balance is $29,193.00 A motion was
made and seconded to approve the Treasures report and passed unanimously.
We have CDs coming due in January and February but Larry will be out of
town. He suggests we leave them with the bank and roll it over on short
term. Motion was made and seconded to allow them to rollover the CDs at
the going rate. Motion passed unanimously.
Correspondence: Mike has received the paper work from the EAA for membership
renewal including roster and insurance. Mike received another email concerning
the 2007 Midwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show. It will be held at
the Busch student center at St. Louis University on January 19-21. More
details can be found at www.macts.org.
When Larry gets monthly power bill he gets the monthly newsletter from
airport and it is reported in there that the museum has just been approved
for the National registry of historic places. This should help them in
getting funding for improvements etc. Walt mentioned a nice article in
the Belleville paper recently about the Downtown St.. Louis airport. STL
Downtown airport is the 3rd busiest airport in Illinois.
Old Business: Chris Carson volunteered at the last meeting to put KR2
on ebay. He did so and it sold for $5100.00.
The buyer is picking it up Saturday. He is coming from the other side
of Kansas City. We discussed different ideas of what to do with KR2 money.
It was suggested that we use some of the recent income from sale of aircraft
to start a scholarship fund for A&P students at SWIC since they donated
the KR2 to our chapter. General thought is to help SWIC with a scholarship
and let them administer the money. Motion made and seconded to donate
$1000 from KR2 funds to SWIC – motion passed unanimously. Discussion
ensued on how we should commit annually to this scholarship donation.
Motion was made and seconded that in addition to the 1 yr scholarship
for 2007, we make the intent to give $1000/yr for the next 3 years for
a total of a 4 year scholarship donation. Motion was seconded and passed
unanimously.
Member Brian Kissinger bought the BD5 from the chapter and sold it on
ebay. He is giving $500 of the proceeds to our chapter and another $500
matched from his company(GE) for a total of $1000 donation. He is also
donating $500 to the museum and this will be matched by his company. Brian
has done this on his own accord and is to be commended for his actions.
Thanks Brian!!
Discussion began about our need for a budget. It was suggested that a
budget be determined by a board and then brought forward for voting by
the membership. Motion made that an annual budget be established, put
together by the board and approved by the membership. Motion for budget
was voted on and defeated.
Further discussion ensued on how to manage the money. The original goals
of the chapter were to earn funds to support the tools program and buy
a hangar to help those that are building planes, we are not anxious to
spend too much money.
Mike Brenner recommended we buy an instrument hole punch - sizes two and
a quarter and three and an eighth. Some in the past have bought a tool
and got reimbursed by the club but that is not the recommended way. Motion
made and seconded to buy combination instrument hole punch. This was voted
on and instrument punch passed. Walt Hubert suggested we buy a set of
scales. Brian made a motion to buy the scales not to exceed $1500.00.
This motion was seconded, voted on and passed. Jim Stoops is to buy the
scales and hole punch as approved by the membership.
Dennis D’Angelo offered a free 60 gal compressor to the club. The
club accepted the offer.
New Business: Dennis D’Angelo was nominated for EAA chapter 64
president. There were no other nominations and this was voted on and passed
unanimously. This takes effect in January 07 for a 2 year term. Larry
nominated Rick Ray as programs Director. Rick was also voted in unanimously.
A discussion ensued to about cleaning the carpet in the meeting room.
This discussion was dropped for the time being and a group of members
may try to do this themselves.
Next month is the annual party and we have no meeting. The party is January
20th at Fischer’s restaurant in conjunction with the Illinois Pilots
Association. We get a big buffet, 3 entrees, salad bar, dessert, coffee,
tea, etc for $15.50, includes tip. Gift exchange if you want – gift
not to exceed $10. 6 PM is cocktails , 7 PM is dinner.
